Myotronics K7 technology

We again have added to our already high tech office!  We now offer the state-of-the-art Myotronics K7 technology. The K7 CMS (Computerized Mandibular Scanner) and the K7 EMG (Surface Electromyography) allows us to study the pattern of jaw opening and closing.  We can determine with amazing precision your optimal jaw position. 

The tests are strictly "non-invasive"-no injections and no discomfort.  To use the K7 CMS, a tiny magnet is applied to your lower gum with an adhesive strip.  Sensors on lightweight headgear precisely follow the path of the magnet as you open and close your mouth, and immediately send the information to our computer.  Then, muscular activity is monitored by the K7 EMG.  Tiny electrical signals emitted by your muscles are detected and sent to the computer.

These 2 tests give us your baseline data.  We then use the Myomonitor to painlessly exercise your facial and jaw muscles which overcome the "programming" of your muscles and allows them to achieve a truly relaxed state.  After about 45 minutes, the same tests will be repeated to gather data in this relaxed state.  We can then compare the two to determine if your jaw is in a near-optimal position, or whether your jaw position should be adjusted. 

Once the dentist has determined the position of your optimal bite, an orthotic is fabricated to maintain that bite position.  An orthotic is simply an appliance, custom fitted to your teeth that will maintain your bite in a precise relationship determined to be your neuromuscular occlusion.  It is worn for a period of time prescribed by the doctor as a method to treat TMD symptoms or as an interim step to verify that the diagnosed new bite is correct before anything permanent is done to your teeth.  Once you and your dentist are satisfied with the new bite, permanent alteration of your bite may be considered.
